Two inch thick end grain butcher block checkerboard walnut and maple with three stripes of Cherry

Two inch thick

For a cutting station

These are meant to be in your stationary cutting position or on your dining table for presentation. You will need two hands to move. Choose your size based on your counter space and dining table size. The weight varies by length, width, and type of wood but is typically around 10 lbs.

Inch and a half

Versatile workhorse

This thickness is a cross between the heft of a butcher block and the maneuvarbility of a everyday cutting board. Choose a narrower board of 10 inch width to be a centerpiece on a dining table while still providing you with the space for all your cutting needs. This size will range in weight between 4 to 6 lbs.

One to one and a quarter inch

Everyday Workhorse

This thickness is perfect for everyday cutting, chopping, and moving around the kitchen. Chop ingredients and easily pick the board up to transfer  them into a pan or pot. I tend to do a lot of my cutting on a large thick butcher block and then transfer the veggies onto a 1 1/4 inch thick smaller board to move them to the stove.

Use the right tool for the job

Everything is more effecient when you use the right tool for the task at hand. 10 to 12 inches wide and 14 to 16 inches long for chopping large pieces of meat or large amount of vegetables. 8 to 10 inches wide and 12 to 16 inches long for smaller portions, another person in the kitchen, or to separate your ingredients to cook in stages.
